TL;DR

  • Your Invent assistant can run your Facebook Messenger conversations, receiving and sending messages as your Facebook Page.
  • Every Messenger conversation lands in the same shared inbox as your website widget, WhatsApp, and Instagram threads, with the same knowledge, memory, and human handoff.
  • You need a Facebook Page you administer; connecting takes seconds and no code.
  • Once connected, the assistant answers around the clock, and features like automatic CSAT, follow-ups, and human-only mode work on Messenger like on every other channel.
  • The free Pay As You Go plan supports up to 3 channels, so Messenger fits before you ever upgrade.

Millions of people already message businesses where they already are, and for a huge share of them that place is Facebook Messenger. If your Page's message requests pile up unanswered, that is not a traffic problem, it is a response problem. This guide walks through connecting Messenger to your assistant and what changes once you do.

Why Messenger for your business

Messenger conversations come with intent built in: someone found your Page, opened a chat, and asked. An AI assistant answering as your Page (most people search for this as a "Messenger bot") means every one of those chats gets a useful reply. The catch is that those messages arrive at all hours, mixed in with everything else, and each unanswered thread is a customer who moved on. When we shipped the Messenger channel, we put it this way: lots of your customers are chatting on Facebook Messenger, and now, so can your AI assistant.

The channel matters even more if you run ads on Facebook: campaigns that produce DMs only pay off when the DMs get answered, which is exactly where busy owners lose ad spend.

What you need before connecting

  • A Facebook Page. On Invent, Messenger works as a Page: your assistant receives and sends messages as your business Page, not a personal profile.
  • Admin access to that Page. Connecting authorizes Invent for the Page, so you need to be the one who can grant it.
  • An Invent assistant. If you have not built one yet, start with our step-by-step build guide; the same assistant then serves every channel you connect.

Connect the channel on Invent

  1. Open your assistant and go to Channels. Facebook Messenger is right there with a Connect button.
The Channels tab of an Invent assistant showing Facebook Messenger, described as "Use Messenger to send and receive messages as a Page", with a Connect button.

Every assistant has a Channels tab; Messenger connects from here.

  1. Authorize with Facebook, then pick your Connection and the Page the assistant should answer for, and save with Update Channel.
The Facebook Messenger channel settings in Invent showing a Connection field, a Page selector, a "Learn how to connect Facebook Messenger" help link, and Disconnect and Update Channel buttons.

One connection, one Page: the assistant now speaks as your business.

  1. Send your Page a test message: the assistant should reply as the Page, grounded in your knowledge base.
  2. Adjust instructions if the tone or scope needs tuning, in plain language, and you are live.

That is the whole setup. From then on, On New Message hands every incoming Messenger message to your assistant, and Send Message delivers its replies as your Page. Changed your mind or switching Pages? The same screen has Disconnect and Update Channel.

What your assistant can do on Messenger

Everything it does everywhere else, because the channel plugs into the same assistant:

  • Answer from your knowledge base: product questions, hours, policies, pricing, in your brand's tone, any hour.
  • Understand whatever customers send: the assistant is multimodal, so a screenshot of an error, a photo of a product, or a voice note all get read and answered, not met with "please type that out".
  • Remember your customers: the assistant's customer memory carries context across conversations, so returning customers are greeted as returning customers.
  • Hand off to your team: when a conversation needs a human, it lands in the shared inbox with routing to the right person and the full transcript attached.
  • Measure satisfaction: automatic CSAT runs on Messenger conversations the same as everywhere else.
  • Recover quiet threads: auto follow-ups re-engage people who asked and drifted.
  • Stay out of the way when you want: human-only mode turns AI replies off for any conversation your team wants to own end to end.

And because Messenger joins the website widget, WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, SMS, and email on one platform, your team stops checking five inboxes to serve one customer base.

Show Messenger right on your website

Here is how easy the two channels play together. In your assistant's Web Widget settings, the Channels section lets visitors reach you on other channels straight from a menu on the widget button, and connected channels are included automatically. Add your Page's m.me link, set a menu heading like "Talk to us on", save, and the widget now offers Messenger next to your chat button:

The Web Widget settings in Invent showing the Channels section with Messenger added via an m.me link, an Add WhatsApp option, a menu heading reading "Talk to us on", and a live preview of the widget offering a Messenger chip next to the "Chat with us" button.

Two fields and a save: your website visitors can now choose Messenger.

Why it matters: some visitors would rather move the conversation into an app they already live in. They start on your site, tap Messenger, and keep talking from their own inbox, and on your side nothing fragments, because every message still lands in the same shared inbox with the same assistant answering.

Messenger automation for business, without the silos

At Invent, channels are doors, not silos. The website widget catches visitors, Instagram catches your social audience, and Messenger catches the customers who live on Facebook. Behind all of them sits one assistant with one knowledge base, one memory, and one inbox, so the experience is consistent no matter which door a customer walks through.

Your customers are already on Messenger. Now your answers are too.

FAQs

What is a Messenger bot, and is it legit?

A Messenger bot is an automated assistant that answers a Facebook Page's messages; on Invent, that is your AI assistant replying as your business Page. It is fully legitimate: the connection runs through Facebook's own Page authorization, you control what the assistant knows and says, and your team can take over any conversation.

Do I need a Facebook Page to connect Messenger?

Yes. The assistant receives and sends Messenger messages as your Facebook Page, so you need a Page and admin access to it.

Can the assistant hand a Messenger conversation to my team?

Yes. Handoff works on Messenger like on every channel: the conversation moves to your shared inbox with the transcript, and routing sends it to the right teammate.

Does Messenger work alongside Instagram and WhatsApp?

Yes, and that is the point: one assistant runs all of them, so a customer who messages your Page today and your Instagram tomorrow gets the same informed answers.

Is Messenger available on the free plan?

The free Pay As You Go plan supports up to 3 channels, so you can run Messenger, and still have room for the website widget and one more, without upgrading.

Will the AI answer every message, even when I want to reply myself?

Only if you want it to. Human-only mode turns off AI replies for any conversation or contact, and your team takes over in the same inbox.

What happens to message requests my Page already has?

New incoming messages are what trigger the assistant; it responds from the moment the channel is connected, so the pile stops growing while your team clears what is already there.

One Page, one assistant, zero unanswered requests.
