TL;DR

  • A TikTok Business Account is now a level of access, not a button. TikTok is replacing the old "Switch to Business Account" option. Business tools come from linking your account to a free TikTok for Business account.
  • Getting one is free and takes less than 2 minutes on a computer. Create an account at TikTok for Business connected to your TikTok account. No documents, no ad, no payment method.
  • Business verification is optional. "Become a Verified Business Account" asks for business documents and takes a few business days. You need it for some extra tools, not to get started.
  • Verification is not the blue check. The blue check is a separate request for notable accounts.
  • A business account is what lets you automate your DMs, including putting an AI agent on them to answer customers.

If you went looking for "Switch to Business Account" in the TikTok app and couldn't find it, you're not doing anything wrong. TikTok has been changing how business accounts work in 2026, and most guides still describe the old button.

This guide shows how to get a TikTok Business Account today, what it gives you, how it compares to a personal account, and when business verification is worth it. Every step below was tested on real accounts in October 2026.

What is a TikTok Business Account?

A TikTok Business Account is a TikTok profile with access to TikTok's business tools: analytics, the Business Suite, a commercial music library, ads, and messaging tools for customer conversations. It's built for brands and companies that use TikTok to sell a product or service.

In 2026, TikTok describes this in levels instead of one switch. Your username, videos and followers stay the same at every level.

  • General TikTok Account

Also called a personal account. This is what most people have, including creators. It includes creator tools and the full music library.

  • TikTok Account with Advanced Access

The level you get by linking your account to a free TikTok for Business account or Business Center. It adds organic business tools, like automatic messages (auto reply, welcome message, suggested questions), basic analytics, the Business Suite and a post scheduler.

  • Verified Business Account

The top level, granted after business verification. It adds tools like conversion analytics, lead collection in messages, showing your business details on your profile, and links to your site from posts.

For most businesses, Advanced Access is what "TikTok Business Account" means in practice. It's free and it's enough to run DM automation.

How to get a TikTok Business Account in 2 minutes

TikTok is replacing the old in-app switch. If you still see Switch to Business Account under Settings and privacy → Account, you can use it, but messaging tools also need the TikTok for Business link below. If you don't see it, this is the way in:

  1. Go to TikTok for Business on a computer and click Get started.
  2. Sign up and connect your TikTok account, the same one you post from.
  3. Fill in your business details: company website, industry, country and business name. You can switch to an agency view if you manage clients.
  4. Accept the terms and click Continue. TikTok creates your Business Center and an advertiser account. You don't need to create a campaign or add a payment method.

That's it. On a computer it takes less than 2 minutes, and there's nothing to wait for.

One thing may look odd afterwards: the TikTok app can still label your profile "Personal account". That's fine. The label only changes after business verification, and your business tools work without it.

If you plan to answer customers in DMs, turn on one more setting in the TikTok app: Settings and privacy → Inbox & Messaging → Professional · Engage followers. This opens your inbox to messaging tools, and it's the step most people miss.

TikTok business account vs personal account

Both account types can post, go LIVE, run Promote and see analytics. The differences show up in music, business tools and customer conversations.

  • Music

Personal accounts can use the full music library. Verified Business Accounts only get the Commercial Music Library, songs cleared for brand use, so a trending sound may not be available.

  • Business tools

A personal account gets creator tools. With Advanced Access you add the Business Suite, a post scheduler, the Creative Hub and automatic messages.

  • Messages

Messaging tools, like auto replies and connecting an AI agent to your DMs, need Advanced Access or a Verified Business Account.

  • Profile link

A personal account needs at least 1,000 followers to add a website link to its profile. A Verified Business Account can add one right away and show its business details.

  • Monetization

Creator programs are built for personal accounts. If you also post as a creator, TikTok recommends keeping two separate accounts.

If TikTok is part of how you sell, you want the business tools. If you mostly post for fun or as a creator, stay personal.

Do you need business verification?

Not to get started. Business verification turns your account into a Verified Business Account, and TikTok may ask for it to keep some business features over time.

In the app, it lives under Settings and privacy → Account → Become a Verified Business Account. The flow asks for:

  • Basic info: your company address, website and industry.
  • A business document: in the US, a letter from the IRS that shows your EIN, such as a CP 575 or 147C. Other countries ask for their own registration documents.
  • Review time: the app says it usually takes 3 business days.

Verify when you want the top-level tools: conversion analytics, lead collection in messages, business details on your profile, or links in your posts. TikTok also advises against switching back and forth between account types, because verification isn't saved.

And one common mix-up: business verification is not the blue check. The blue check comes from a separate "Verification" request for notable people and brands, which asks for news coverage and an ID. You don't need it for anything in this guide.

Is a TikTok Business Account free?

Yes. Creating a TikTok for Business account, getting Advanced Access and using the Business Suite cost nothing.

You only pay if you choose to: ads you run through Ads Manager, or third-party tools you connect to your account.

Put an AI agent on your TikTok DMs

The biggest reason most businesses need a TikTok Business Account is the inbox. A video takes off, and suddenly hundreds of people ask the same things in DMs: price, sizes, shipping, opening hours, "is this still available". TikTok's built-in automatic messages cover a welcome message and a few keyword replies, but they can't answer from your catalog or follow up.

With Advanced Access, you can connect an AI agent to your TikTok DMs. In Invent, you connect TikTok from your assistant's Channels tab, and the agent answers every DM from your own business information, qualifies buyers, books appointments and hands the conversation to your team when a person should step in. It's AI customer service and sales on the channel where your customers already are.

If connecting shows "User is not eligible for the Advanced Access tier", your TikTok account isn't linked to TikTok for Business yet. Create the free account above, then connect again.

FAQs

How do I get a TikTok Business Account in 2026?

Create a free account at TikTok for Business with your TikTok account and fill in your business details. This gives your account Advanced Access to business tools. It takes less than 2 minutes on a computer, with no documents or payment.

Why can't I find "Switch to Business Account" on TikTok?

TikTok is replacing that option in 2026, and many accounts no longer see it. Settings and privacy → Account now shows "Become a Verified Business Account" instead. You can get business tools without it by creating a free TikTok for Business account.

Is a TikTok Business Account free?

Yes. The account, Advanced Access and the Business Suite are all free. You only pay for ads you choose to run.

What is the difference between a TikTok business account and a personal account?

A business account gets business tools: the Business Suite, scheduling, automatic messages and DM automation. A personal account keeps the full music library and creator programs. Verified Business Accounts can only use the Commercial Music Library.

Do I need to verify my business on TikTok?

No, not to get started or to automate your DMs. Business verification asks for business documents and takes a few business days. Do it when you want the top-level tools, like conversion analytics and business details on your profile.

Is business verification the same as the blue check?

No. Business verification adds business tools. The blue check is a separate request for notable people and brands and needs news coverage and an ID.

Can I switch my TikTok Business Account back to personal?

You can, but TikTok advises against switching back and forth, because your business verification isn't saved. If you want to post personal content and promote a business, TikTok recommends two separate accounts.

What happens to accounts that switched to Business before?

They keep working. Older business accounts may show "Personal account" in the app now, and their messaging tools still run. TikTok may ask for business verification later to keep some features.

Why do I see "User is not eligible for the Advanced Access tier" when connecting TikTok to Invent?

Your TikTok account isn't linked to a TikTok for Business account yet. Create a free one at TikTok for Business with the same TikTok account, then connect your TikTok channel in Invent again.

A business account takes 2 minutes. The customers it brings into your DMs deserve an answer in seconds.
